About me
My name is Debbie Dankoor and I am a registered healthcare psychologist (GZ psychologist) and psychotherapist.
I grew up in the Netherlands as a child of Surinamese parents. Partly because of my Surinamese background and its community way of life, I’ve always paid attention to the people around me and was interested how people interact and relate to each other.
I have been able to use this ability and interest in my participation in several psychology studies. Starting from childhood development (academic course) to the adult and elderly age (post academic course in GZ psychology and Psychotherapy).
I have been working in several institutions for mental health care for over 20 years in the North and Central part of The Netherlands. In treatments I would always focus on the individual person in relation to their contextual environment. Cultural themes, religion, lifestyle and relationships with others are included in this. Furthermore, I also offer couple- and family therapy.
With my open-minded attitude, extensive working experience and scientific knowledge I get involved in a process working on reducing and/or better tolerating psychological complaints, healing traumatic events or changing behavior patterns. The ultimate goal is that a person can continue its process of inner strength, self compassion and growth without my help in (constructive) relationship with significant others.
Important elements in the treatment are involvement, respect, humor and mutual commitment.
It is always an unique and special process and I am thankful that I can be part of a personal journey in someone’s life.
